The Glock G27 in Detail

 The G27, a small and concealable but nevertheless powerful subcompact pistol, is one of Glock’s more notable subcompact pistols. The G27 is chambered in.40 S&W, a fairly versatile cartridge that sits between the heavy.45 ACP and the lighter 9x19mm cartridges. The.40 S&W also has a similar trajectory and recoil as the 9X19mm bullet, making the adjustment to the larger caliber round easier.

 The G27, as a subcompact pistol, lacks the magazine capacity of its full-sized equivalents in the Glock range, with a normal magazine holding 9 bullets. It can, however, use bigger 22-round magazines, however doing so would eliminate much of the G27’s compactness.

Though clearly a flexible backup subcompact, Glock has improved the G27 with the release of the Gen 5 upgrade.

The G27 is based on Glock’s Marksman Barrel, which is described as “enhanced barrel rifling based on the proven polygonal barrel design that delivers improved accuracy.” The Austrian manufacturer claims that their polygonal rifling improves the gas seal between the projectile and the barrel wall. This has the added advantage of maintaining gas behind the bullet and causing less bullet distortion upon firing. Both of these elements can help to reduce barrel fouling, increase bullet velocity, reduce wind resistance, and improve accuracy. In the case of the G27, the barrel measures 87mm (3.43 inches).
